Most people think selling is something you do at work, but Krista and Brian Demcher have spent nearly three decades proving otherwise – in corporate sales rooms, entrepreneurial ventures, and over 25 years of marriage and raising a family, which is honestly where the real persuasion happens.
Every week on this sales and communication podcast, they bring one bold idea worth buying and walk you through the story behind it, the case for it, and the pushback against it – so by the end, you don’t just know where you stand, you understand exactly how you got there. Think of it as a persuasion and storytelling masterclass disguised as a really good conversation.
Because a good idea is only as good as your ability to sell it! Sales skills are life skills…and this show is where you learn them.
New episodes every Monday.
Success has seasons, and your business should too. That is the idea Karen Cooper is selling in this episode of She Sells He Sells: Ideas Worth Buying, and after 24 years in real estate, she has lived every single one of them.
Karen’s argument is this: we readily accept that our lives have natural seasons, but we refuse to acknowledge that our businesses do too. We think we have to keep doing things the way we did five, ten, fifteen, twenty years ago. That’s not how it works, and pretending otherwise is a fast track to real estate agent burnout.
She would know. Ten years into her career, with three young children at home, a husband working shift work as a career fireman, and 50 to 60 home sales a year, Karen was running with her hair on fire. She remembers standing on the porch at her son’s birthday party, on the phone with an upset seller, watching her life unfold in front of her without actually participating in it. Her first attempt at a fix – trading production for a managing broker role, the “traditional” next step in real estate – turned out to be a colossal mistake. She traded one version of burnout for another.
What actually changed everything was becoming open: open to what her business could look like, open to what this career could look like, open to redefining success as more than a number. That openness led to founding Empowering Women in Real Estate, a community that started as a free Facebook group 12 years ago and now includes over 42,000 women in real estate across the industry.
Karen and Krista get into what it takes to let go of the version of success you’ve worked so hard to build, why “I don’t know the answer, but I can point you to someone who does” is the ultimate confidence, how to step off the speeding train of making more money to fund a bigger life that requires making more money, and the question to ask yourself when you don’t even know what season you’re in anymore.
If you are a real estate agent, a business owner, or anyone who only knows success as more – more clients, more volume, more everything – this one is for you.
